THERAPY THURSDAY

It’s normal to be both excited as well as anxious and stressed at the beginning of a school year. In addition, you may also feel enthusiastic yet uncertain, hopeful yet apprehensive. It may vary from day to day. It is normal to have an array of mixed emotions. Many teachers do! Actually, “a whopping 76% of American workers say they worry on Sunday nights about the stresses awaiting them on Monday morning.”

Insider Magazine did a survey on teachers feeling going into a new year. Read here: https://www.businessinsider.com/how-teachers-feel-at-the-beginning-of-the-school-year-2016-9

So, how do we keep positive and get rid of negative ones?

📌 Focus on the positive thoughts as much as you can. ·Know that your fears probably won’t come to fruition ·Try not to time travel into the future with “what if’s”.

📌 Focus on today; tomorrow will take care of itself.

📌 Remember the positive impacts you are making or are going to make, don’t focus on your “failures”.

📌 Focus on what you can do instead of what you can’t do.

📌 Try not to measure your worth based on your success in the classroom; you are more than a teacher.

📌 Remember, simply do your best and that is all you can do!

📌 Breath, just breathe!

Speaking from experience. 🙂

As teachers, we are often overworked and pulled in too many directions. We often put others before ourselves and it is hard to learn to take care of ourselves. Addressing mental health is part of self-care for our minds, bodies, and souls. Remember, if your cup is empty, you can’t fill someone else’s cup.
