What’s On My Desk?

Last week, I was watching a Netflix account of Woodstock ’69; I believe it is called Trainwreck. If you haven’t watched it, consider it. It is good. It provided an interesting and different perspective of what we know and have read about Woodstock ’69. According to the documentary, the event was poorly planned from the start and was as the title infers “a chaotic and disastrous situation.”— although, I am sure not everyone agrees. As I listened to the story, “the itch” arose in me — if you get the itch, you know of what I am speaking. I thought to myself, “This could be fun; a lesson on Woodstock!” I quickly grabbed my pen and journal and started brainstorming on how I could create a lesson plan that had meaning and wasn’t just fluff. How could I take this event and make it applicable to life in America? Side Note: Before I actually begin writing a lesson, I usually create the graphics to go with it, which helps me in my development process. I am usually brainstorming through my design. This one turned out bright and playful. I am pretty happy with it.

This brings me to the lesson I am currently working on called Woodstock Rockin in ’69: What Can We Learn About How A Counter-culture Changed America? This lesson incorporates depth and complexity skills: change “over time” and “multiple perspectives.” The “Big Idea”? How the counterculture changed American culture?

STRENGTHENING MY DEPTH AND COMPLEXITY PLANNING SKILLS

Although most of my lessons, I feel, incorporate depth and complexity in some form, I haven’t really made an effort to identify which ones I have been using in the past, but am fine-tuning my skills. I hope to beginnig incorporating these depth and complexity icons into my lessons in the future. Never stop learning! For me, there is always room for improvement! It doesn’t hurt that my teacher-husband, as a GT Lead, is an expert in the depth and complexity implementation and is required to use them in all lessons. I have a feeling he is going to get weary of my questions pretty soon! Stay tuned!
