We’re officially halfway through January—great job making it through the return from break! This time of year is all about re-establishing routines, setting goals, and keeping students motivated during the winter months.
January and February are full of holidays and celebrations around the world, and it’s a great time to dive into geography lessons connected:
- New Year celebrations across different countries and cultures
- Lunar New Year preparations in parts of Asia (late January or early February)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 19)
- Australia Day and India’s Republic Day (January 26)
- Black History Month (February 1-March 1)
- Valentine’s Day (February 14)
- Presidents’ Day (February 16)
- Carnival celebrations in countries like Brazil, Italy, and Trinidad
- Chinese Lantern Festival (February)
